The most important thing when choosing a sleep system is to ensure that your spine forms a straight line when you lie on your side and that the natural S-shape is maintained when you lie on your back.

This is the only way to avoid harmful, painful pressure on the intervertebral discs, the surrounding muscles and the nerves. It is particularly important for the spine to remain in a straight line beyond the shoulder area as far as the cervical vertebrae. This allows the whole body to relax and feel free.

The engineering behind riposa sleep systems.

For many years, we have worked in association with teams of experts from industry, medicine and science to enhance the ergonomic principles of riposa products from a technical point of view. This process focuses on the vertical, horizontal and three-dimensional mechanisms of sleep systems to try and match the movements and individual sleeping style of the person lying down.

Thanks to a great deal of dedication and creativity, not to mention interdisciplinary expertise, we came up with a smart core architecture made up of «components» and «units» that each have a different effect. To complete the overall concept, we then integrated special production techniques in foam processing and our own sewing techniques from our workshop.

These principles form the basis for all riposa sleep systems and riposa back support mattresses, both the classic hybrid mattress cores as well as our boxspring systems.

Everyone’s centre of gravity is in the middle of the body. That means that the spine in the lower back area has to do a lot in everyday life. The sacrum and lumbar vertebrae are the zones with the highest sensitivity and vulnerability. From a neurological, orthopaedic and rheumatological point of view, this is the location of an extremely important and complex «control centre» for spinal health, which is comparable to the neck area.

The active lumbar support provided by riposa back support mattresses helps you to adopt an anatomically correct position, however you sleep, makes sure that the spinal muscles can relax and allows the intervertebral discs to expand.

We have designed special technologies including the Back-Relax-System, the Protect-System with high-tech spring elements and the Air-BoxSystem (ABS) and developed construction methods such as Poly-Spring technology specifically to relieve the lumbar vertebrae.

riposa back support mattresses and riposa sleep systems adjust to individual requirements above all in the shoulder zone and over the entire surface of the mattress. In the shoulder area – where the person is particularly sensitive – the Shoulder Balance System ( SBS ) or Shoulder Relax System ( SRS ) provides pleasant point elasticity.

Where the body meets the mattress.

Individual adjustment is also vital over the entire surface of the mattress, precisely where the body meets the supple material of the mattress. The horizontal and vertical ventilation channels on the matrix surface create an indescribable feeling of absolute comfort when you are asleep. At the same time, they represent a ventilation system for removing moisture.

Sleep climate and aeration.

During the night, a person can produce up to ¼ litre of moisture, which the duvet and mattress have to absorb. This is only possible if air is able to circulate in the sleep system.
The three-dimensional, breathable design of our mattress cores guarantees thorough ventilation and air circulation. The elegant lining made of sheep’s wool (Swisswool), silk or climate fibres absorbs the moisture and, combined with the riposa mattress architecture, act as active climate regulators.

Pioneering work.

As well as using wood, which is a very highly valued material, we opt for high-tech materials such as aluminium and carbon for our slatted bases. These materials were originally used in aircraft construction and the medical sector due to their outstanding properties.
riposa showed the way forward with the courageous product launch of riposa Flex in 2000. What started out as an unconventional idea thought up by the two founders of riposa has now become the established new standard throughout the industry.
