Have you ever thought about what happens to your mattress once it reaches the end of its life cycle? With “Circle Sleep”, riposa is the first mattress manufacturer in Switzerland to launch a mattress line where 92% of the mattress core goes back into a sustainable industrial cycle at the end of its service life.
“Circle Sleep” is the name of the latest product generation from riposa. But the Glarus-based company sees Circle Sleep as much more than that. “We are convinced that thinking and acting in a circular way will become state of the art for production companies,” says Iva Schnellmann, who runs the second-generation family business with her sister Reta Schnellmann. With this in mind, the company has completely rethought and modified the mattress construction process – and at the same time breathed life into a new division that will be fully dedicated to the development of recyclable products in future.
“When developing our Circle Sleep line, we followed the principle of ‘as much as necessary, as little as possible’,” explains Reta Schnellmann. “As many materials as necessary so that the new line lives up to our high demands in terms of ergonomic sleeping comfort – and as little material as possible so that the back support mattresses meet the requirements of a recyclable product.” For riposa, this means first and foremost having the product’s entire life cycle in mind as early as the development stage. Circle Sleep back support mattresses are constructed according to a completely new method that riposa has developed in association with long-standing industry partners. The “Circle Sleep” method allows the Glarus-based company to disassemble the mattresses that have been returned to them and to recycle 92% of the mattress core in Switzerland. The individual components then go back into Swiss industry in the form of primary and secondary raw materials.
The new “Circle Sleep” line from riposa initially includes two mattress models. In addition to their recyclable design, the two back support mattresses also boast an industry-wide material innovation: “reFoam”. This mindful and sustainable foam composition is produced according to a newly developed process by combining carefully selected sections of foam that would be discarded in a conventional manufacturing process.
